✨Who we are?

Nestled at the base of the majestic Cascade Mountains in Redmond, WA, our outdoor school is a sanctuary where children are immersed in the natural world year-round, embracing the ever-changing seasons of the Pacific Northwest. Here, rain, sun, snow, and mist become integral to the curriculum, inspiring curiosity, resilience, and wonder.

Sisu continues the 20 year tradition of Tiny Treks NW Outdoor School. We are committed to fostering a lifelong love for nature, rooted in daily explorations of forests, meadows, and streams. Through unstructured play, guided discovery, and hands-on learning, our students gain essential life skills—collaboration, problem-solving, creativity, and adaptability. They learn to build shelters, track weather patterns, identify local flora and fauna, and steward the environment responsibly.

Our school honors the deep history and ongoing presence of the Indigenous Coast Salish peoples, specifically the Duwamish and Snoqualmie Tribes, on whose ancestral land we learn, work, and grow. We integrate this acknowledgment into our daily practices, teaching children to respect and connect with the land through stories, traditions, and sustainable practices passed down through generations.

In our outdoor pre-school, children develop confidence, empathy, and a profound connection to the Earth. By nurturing a spirit of adventure and a sense of stewardship, we empower young learners to grow into mindful, capable, and compassionate individuals who thrive in harmony with the natural world.

🧐 Our philosophy

Our emergent curriculum incorporates science, critical thinking, math, pre-literacy, and social-emotional development into our outdoor explorations. We believe nature is our best classroom, and that kids learn most through experiential learning outdoors.

Together, we lift up logs, count ants, explore our senses, dig in the mud, run through meadows, learn about birds and bugs, walk through historic farms, and wade in creeks. Our program nurtures curiosity and instills respectful and protective love of the natural world in our children.

It is so important for all of humankind to stay connected with nature. Through wonderful hikes, music, crafts, snacks and stories, Sisu Outdoor School families enjoy the natural world while staying connected to each other in the process.
