Meet Our Teachers
It takes a special breed of teachers to teach in a classroom with no walls. Our teachers thrive in the outdoors- through rain, sun, snow and whatever nature offers, the teachers of Sisu Outdoor School are there, with smiling, muddy faces- ready to guide your child through amazing outdoor experiences and learning.

Sanna loves muddy boots, fresh air, and the joy of seeing kids thrive outdoors. With a degree in Early Childhood Education from Finland and years of experience teaching forest school, she’s passionate about helping children grow through play, exploration, and connection with nature. When she’s not at Sisu, you’ll find her adventuring in the wilderness with her silly border collie, Mr. H - usually riding along in her dear old rusty Jeep on their way to trails, rivers, mountains, or backcountry skiing

I am a Washington native and grew up with a menagerie of pets and loving the outdoors. My husband and I have raised our two children here in Redmond instilling the same love of nature and animals. We enjoy time on the weekends hiking with our two dogs. As an outdoor teacher I am fortunate to be able to explore Sisu’s forest with the children while encouraging curiosity and fostering a love and respect for nature.

Megan has been a valued teacher at our school for the past five years. Outside the classroom, she pursues her passion for photography in her business Better Together Photo Co-op. Megan is known as our resident “handy woman,” always ready to build or fix what’s needed around the property. She even crafted our two beloved mud kitchens! When she’s not teaching or creating, Megan enjoys spending time with her family and relaxing at her cabin in Plain.

Hello! My name is Catalina Chaffin-Chicas and I have worked with children since I was 16. I first started teaching as a pre-school English teacher in Mexico, and then continued to work in child care programs when I moved to the U.S. I received my B.S. in Child Development from California State University, Fresno in 2019. In 2021, I moved to Washington to find better opportunities for working outdoors with kids and to escape the California heat. Nonetheless, before I had a chance to explore the nearby programs, my son came into the picture and I decided to stay home with him during his early years. I love outdoor programs as both students and teachers can benefit from nature mentally, physically, and socially. I look forward to engaging in play, co-writing stories, and learning alongside our students as we explore together!
